SaaS BI Company Review

Given the recent budget cuts in our company, we have now had to reduce the workforce in our IT department and transition from a traditional business intelligence platform to a more light weight solution such as SaaS BI. In our search for a cost effective business intelligence solution on the cloud, we came across a few different companies such as Jaspersoft, Pentaho and Actuate. I analyzed all three companies based on their ease of use and cost effectiveness. One thing that stood out about Actuate was the amount of useful information on their website about SaaS business intelligence. They let developers and users upload BIRT content to a fully hosted SaaS BI environment. I was very excited about their product offerings and decided to download the free trial version of their software. Even though, I am quite familiar with business intelligence reporting tools the platform seems very easy to use. Before I make any final decisions I will keep playing with the software and also try out the other open source competitor’s offerings. Hopefully I will be able to make a decision soon.
